The Trial is a team project created for entry in the 2017 Unreal Engine 4 Summer Game Jam. We created the game in five days, streamed the majority of the process on Twitch channels operated by Alessa Baker, OrganicComputer and myself, and the title ultimately won the specialty category for Best Cinematic!
The game is a semi-story-driven platformer (I wrote the stupid plot in like an hour somewhere mid-contest lol), and while the game jam submission version contains no completely game-breaking bugs, there is an invisible blocking volume at the start that initially prevents the player from progressing forward, the opening cinematic is not skippable, the in-game ambient wind/music audio tracks are broken, and one stream viewer managed to speedrun the whole thing in something like 35 seconds or whatever. I hate you Toasty. I hate you so much.
We initially discussed continuing work on the game beyond the jam, but ultimately decided to discontinue the project and focus on some new ideas with the possibility of returning to it at a later date.
